Easily one of the most unusual experiences of my life, 2015 was the year that I appeared on national television.
It all started when lowcostholidays sent an internal email in December asking for models for the Christmas advert. With the chance to win a holiday out of it, I applied and promptly forgot all about it.
A few weeks later, I got an email saying that I made the cut for the casting, and should attend the shoot at Park Royal Studios (the same place they recently filmed Romeo Beckham) later that week.
While the six of us lowcost staff were all pretty nervous to begin with, Beta London casting looked after all of us and made us feel completely at home on set.
The video below is my favourite of the lowcostholidays commercials you may have seen on TV over Christmas or January. See if you can spot me near the end of the video with my colleague, Charlie.
In case you were wondering why I don’t appear very happy in the above video, the model in front of me kept blocking my view of the camera. So the producer got me to stand on a box. Pretty glamorous right?
To help relate the concept of the shoot, they also filmed a behind the scenes video, which features an embarrassing comment by me at 2.40. This video still makes me cringe playing it back, so if you want a laugh it’s worth a look.
If you were wondering to yourself whether appearing on national television for lowcostholidays was worth the effort and embarrassment, here is what I got out the whole process: an incredibly fun experience that pushed me out of my comfort zone, multiple messages saying ‘Dude, did I just see you on TV?’ (note: totally worth it for that alone) and last but not least, a free holiday to Malta. Not bad for a fully paid day at work…
I hope you’ve all enjoyed watching my 10 seconds of fame, keep your eyes peeled for any future videos, you never know where I might end up next!
